In
this chapter the specifics of the complex linkage between environmental
externalities, organization and individual behavior have been explained. In
sociotechnical systems, social relationships in work groups can be associated
with the technological demands of their tasks. In spite of the enthusiasm of
the proponents of the sociotechnical view, considerable controversies exist
with respect to the nature of the effect of environmental factors on
organizational structures and consequently on behavior.
